Nail Art: Swirls

I was laying late last night, waiting for inspiration to come. But my mind went blank. So in hope that it will visit me sooner or later, I polished my nails with one of my all time favorite polishes, China Glaze Side Saddle. I still wanted to create a Valentine's inspired nail art design. After I finished polishing my nails, I still didn't have a clue what to do. So I went back to bed and stared at the ceiling. A few minutes after, I was preparing for another nail art session with myself.

Hypnosis is the inspiration for this nail design. It hit me when I was staring blankly at the ceiling. I simply called this Swirls and I'm sure you know why. ;)

Swirls are often how hypnotized characters in cartoons are drawn and that's what came into mind when I thought of using hypnosis as inspiration for this nail design. I wasn't sure how it would look on my nails but I decided to just start painting and follow my instincts. I painted swirls that would cover the entire nail bed and used thick lines instead of thin because I figured that would be easier to paint.

I still wanted this nail art to be fit for Valentine's so I decided on using a pink acrylic color for the swirls. I originally wanted to use red but it would not show well with the base color.

This nail design is quite bold, I think. It may attract a lot of attention to your nails as the lines are prominent. Overall, I think it is a fun and very flexible nail art design. I'm thinking this would look amazing in black and white. It is confusing and beautiful at the same time.

Here's a closer look:

I would recommend this for nail art beginners who would like to practice strokes and would like to get familiarized with their nail art brushes.

Do you consider this nail art a simple design?

  1. I think this would be manageable for a beginner looking to try some nail art. I'm terrible at nail art and think I could do this after a little practice. Love seeing all your new mani's!

  3. Very nice! I just painted swirls on some of my nails too last night! But I used toothpick instead of brush so the result is not as nice. The rest of the nails I painted with daisies learned from your tutorial.

I think so too! This design is a good practice for nail art painting because the strokes to create the swirls will go in all directions. It would be perfect to get familiar with the brush strokes and learn personal techniques that would work for you. :)

A toothpick will do! One good thing about this design is that the strokes need not be too clean. I think your swirls look great. And thank you for getting inspiration from my daisies nail art. :)

Your comment made me smile up to my ears! Thank you. And yes, they do seem to move when stared for a long time. I could probably test this if it could really make a person fall asleep or something like that. :P

The base color is sort of a reddish brown but I covered its beauty with the pink swirls. I'm a bad girl!

Haha! Now if only I actually know how to hypnotize somebody, I could probably get a date for Valentine's day!

  17. Neat and sooo nice! I like it and I would like to see it black & white! I don't know if it is easy, I always have less problems with straight lines than with something that should look "curly" :-) But, I will definitely try it! :-)

  19. I actually thought the pink was the base color and you did the swirls with the darker color :p haha.. I guess I got a bit hypnotised by the mani :p This is an awesome idea and it looks very cute :) It could be very fun trying to do it in black and white!

I might do this in black and white one of these days. I also have less problems with painting straight lines. I guess that's why I made the curls in this swirls thick. If you do find time to try this, let me know how it turned out. :)
